National Day is just a few days away. What better way to celebrate our nation’s 52nd birthday than to embrace Singapore’s unique culture and heritage? We’ve compiled a list of home designs with Singaporean elements in them – some funny, and some guaranteed to make you feel nostalgic:
1. Back in the day
This HDB in Hougang somehow reminds us of our grandmother’s place. Those are probably the exact same sofas and table that is in her house right now. We also love the fact that there’s a trishaw and old road signs in the space.
2. Colours of the flag
It doesn’t get more patriotic or Singaporean than this. Decorating your home in our national flag’s colours – red and white – definitely makes the room brighter and livelier. Red is also a considered a lucky colour (huat ah).
We don’t know about you, but the tiles and the grill-looking feature wall reminds us of old kopitiams that we used to pass by when we were kids. It also reminds us of shopfronts during public holidays.
4. For the love of nasi lemak
The nasi lemak fever hasn’t subsided. Show your love for this local dish by making your bedroom look like your favourite food! We’d recommend getting a burger one too since everyone loved the nasi lemak burger.
5. Food haven
Singaporeans love food. Feel free to express your love for local food openly by jazzing your living room up with food pillows. We like the ones sold at Naiise.
